Anxiety is a symptom of chronic inflammation

When a child presents symptoms such as anxiety, we have to look at what’s happening in the brain, the body and the gut to locate the root cause of their anxiety.

Case Study: Meet Cassandra

When Cass was 6 years old, she had major issues with sleep, school meltdowns, and would refuse to leave her mother’s side.

She’d scream for hours. She’d hurl abuse at her mum. It was a really distressing situation for everyone.

What we know is the more significant the behaviour, the more internal distress the child is experiencing.

Cass was really struggling. Mum was, too.

When we looked at Cassandra’s brain we found excessive levels of fast-wave activity and not enough of the relaxing, slower wave activity.

She also had signs of beta spindling, which indicates a really inflamed brain. It was a significant reason why she had such epic meltdowns.

After listening to Cassandra’s mum, and understanding what was happening inside Cassandra’s body, we treated her symptoms by putting her on a low inflammatory diet and supporting supplements.

Plus we gave her specific home exercises to help balance her startle reflex and vagal tone.

Within weeks she was happily attending school and was able to leave her mum’s side.
